Bubba
No, baba is not
a European traditional east cake that women bake for Easter. I’ve heard a very
similar word “Bubba” in America and learned very quickly that this name is pejorative,
something similar to “redneck”.
“Those ‘bubbas’ in the Pentagon, you know!” My friend
expressed his frustration with bureaucracy and politics.
Baba is pejorative word in Russia, too, but it is addressed to
a different gender. Baba in Russian
applies to a woman, and babas to
women. They are villagers, rough-looking hardworking women, or vulgar, pushy
city women with an attitude.
In Russia we say, baba
s vozu – kobyle legche. That means if a “woman” leaves her husband (falls
off the wagon), then it is easier for a horse (husband) to pull the wagon (his
life).
May be it is for our benefit to get rid of those
babas-bubbas politicians according to our Russian custom once and forever? Babas-bubbas
s vozu – kobyle legche. The whole society will start breathing easier when
we get rid of them.
